Protest against One Nation in Robertson

ROBERTSON -- At the second One Nation meeting in the NSW southern highlands, protesters outnumbered supporters by about four to one.

Despite the violence by Hanson supporters at a previous meeting, around 50 protesters braved wet weather in peaceful protest.

Local residents, activists from Youth Against Racism, Campaign Against Racism and Resistance, as well as the South Coast Trade Union Choir, chanted, sang and spoke against racism in an energetic and positive atmosphere.

Special anti-racist verses of solidarity songs were created for the occasion, word sheets were handed out, and everyone sang along with the choir.

Resistance activist Daniel Judge said, “The rally showed everyone that non-violent protest is the best way forward for the anti-racism movement. It demoralises One Nation supporters, who can't cry that we want to silence them.

“All protesters were aware that the last rally was attacked by Hanson supporters but felt it necessary to defend their right to free speech, and not be intimidated by racists.”
