"English law coincides with common sense." -- British health secretary Stephen Dorrell, indicating the government will oppose any move by the European Commission of Human Rights to outlaw the beating of children.

Suggestions wanted

"I am fed up with being told [by Aborigines], `This is our land'. Well, where the hell do I go?" -- Independent Pauline Hanson, federal member for the 12th century.

Will she tell us?

"I really think we should be heading towards some sort of constitutional reform down the track ... what I am thinking is when the queen sort of dies." -- Jackie Kelly, sort of the Liberal member for Lindsay until the High Court ruled she was ineligible because she was employed by the RAAF at the time of the election.

Thanks for that

"We don't want to get into a world war here." -- US President Bill Clinton on his plans for attacking Iraq.
