SA public servants take to the streets

ADELAIDE -- Public Service Association (PSA) members across the state held a two-hour stoppage on August 5 in protest at the state government's inaction over their 15% pay claim and to protect working conditions.
A rally of 700 state public servants managed to close down the state administration for more than an hour. PSA general secretary Jan McMahon had entered the building to deliver a letter to Premier Dean Brown when about 100 members hurtled in behind her. The security guards panicked and closed the building's lift system.
PSA members then began a chant of "No, no, we won't go" as the guards pleaded for them to leave. McMahon was finally allowed up to deliver the letter.
Widespread bans have been imposed throughout public service agencies, including work to rule, no processing of administrative documentation and some revenue bans.
