FEATURES
Special efforts

6 March 1996

When the federal election was called five weeks ago, Green Left Weekly quickly went into campaign mode in an effort to bring you as much information as possible about the most important issues and about progressive candidates. Environmental policies, youth unemployment, the role of money in elections, airport noise in Sydney, interviews with Bob Brown and Christabel Chamarette, privatisation, social welfare cutbacks, threats to migrants' rights Green Left provided the relevant information rather than the polls and personalities of the big business media. That kind of special effort is difficult, but it's an important part of the reason for the existence of alternative media like Green Left Weekly. One result of our special election coverage, however, was that many other important articles and features had to be postponed. As a result, there's a rich feast awaiting readers in coming weeks. This includes Karen Wald's contribution, from Havana, to the ongoing discussion about Cuba's strategy for fighting AIDS; ``What's so super about super?'', which examines who gains and who loses from the superannuation push; a report from the Fourth World Atheist Conference; what new management strategies have done to life on the assembly line; and the background to the Scott Report on British arms sales to Iraq, which nearly brought down John Major's government. All this plus the news, views and reviews you expect every week. To make sure you don't miss an issue, just send in the subscription clip-off on page 5. And if you can, why not include a contribution to the Green Left fund appeal, so that we always have the means to make a special effort? Green Left Weekly it's your paper.
