Student Underground

14 November 1995
By Katie Hepworth On November 6 the first full-length edition of Student Underground was sent out to schools all over NSW. The newspaper was produced by the Secondary Student Anti-Nuclear Network (SSAN) and joins a large number of student papers that have sprung up all over Australia in the wake of the anti-nuclear campaign. Student Underground was initiated to keep members of SSAN as well as other students up to date with current campaigns -- not only around nuclear testing but also other issues relevant to school students. The first edition includes articles on the October 25 walkout and general information on student rights, including the right to strike. This has become an important issue following the suspension of students at Bethlehem College and other schools following the walkout. Student Underground gives students a chance to have a say on issues that concern them without fear of persecution. It aims to offer support to students, to prevent the abuses of power which deny students their rights. We want to continue to produce the paper regularly, but help is needed. If you can help come along to the meetings at 2pm every Saturday at the Resistance Centre, 23 Abercrombie St, Chippendale.
