Eastlink vote threat

3 October 1995
By Bill Mason
BRISBANE -- Protesters against the Eastlink power project vowed to launch a South-East Tollway-style campaign against the federal ALP government after talks with the state government broke down on September 19. They promised to target the four marginal seats of Ipswich, Oxley, Forde and Longman in the next federal election. But state minerals and energy minister Tony McGrady has declared that the proposed $350 million electricity grid between NSW and Queensland will go ahead.
South East Queensland Against Eastlink spokesperson Rob Doro said that NSW anti-power grid groups would join with Queensland opponents to eject Labor at the next poll if the federal Coalition gave a commitment to scrap Eastlink.
