Boycott Beijing campaign

Women internationally are organising to protest at the location of the 1995 United Nations Fourth International Conference on Women, to be held in Beijing. A Boycott Beijing campaign was initiated by women in London, in associated with Campaign Free Tibet, and this demand has been taken up by some women in Australia.

The campaign aims to highlight China's abuse of human rights. Such abuses include forced sterilisations and denial of reproductive rights. The NGO Women's Forum of the 1993 Vienna Human Rights Conference also agreed that if Tibetans were not allowed unrestricted participation at Beijing, then a boycott would be supported. China has as yet given no such assurance to the UN Commission on the Status of Women.

Organisers of the Boycott Beijing Campaign -- Australia can be contacted by writing to PO Box 106, Enmore NSW 2042 or calling (02) 519 2203.
