Hiroshima — Never Again!

3 August 1994

Hiroshima -- Never Again!

August 6 marks the 49th anniversary of the atomic bomb dropped by the United States on the Japanese people in Hiroshima. Since then the development of atomic weapons has continued at an alarming rate. Further, since World War II there have been more than 100 accidents at nuclear facilities in more than 11 countries.

Despite this record, the Australian government is actively encouraging the development of the nuclear industry with the mining and export of uranium. The Australian Labor Party will debate the dropping of restrictions on uranium mining at its national conference in September.

“Hiroshima -- Never Again” is the theme of an action in Adelaide on August 6, at 1pm at Parliament House. Unions, solidarity and peace groups, political parties and their supporters will gather to demand an end to US war moves on the Korean Peninsula, no mining or export of uranium and an end to Australian military ties to Indonesia.
