World of music at Cafe Folkloric

Brisbane's Cafe Folkloric presents an impressive line-up of international music on May 19, starting at 8pm. With Andy Rigby on Paraguayan harp, Riley Lee on Japanese bamboo flute, Linsey Pollak, Humarimba Band & Friends with new compositions, and Tuli Paan the Hungarian band, it should be a memorable evening.

Linsey Pollak is a musician, composer and instrument maker who has been conducting Humarimba and cross-cultural music workshops as part of a 10-week residency with the Brisbane Ethnic Music and Arts Centre. The Humarimba is Linsey's own invention and involves a strung xylophone harnessed at either end to two players, with an additional player in between.

Victorian-based harpist Andy Rigby will be performing Paraguayan and Venezuelan music inspired by his travels in South America. And Riley Lee, one of the few Westerners to attain the rank of grand master on Japan's classical bamboo flute, will present both traditional and contemporary repertoires.

The night will also feature three-piece group Tuli Paan. Led by young local musician Virag Antal, they combine traditional instruments with modern sounds, transposing authentic Hungarian music into our present multicultural environment.

The licensed venue is at Yungaba, 120 Main St, Kangaroo Point. Admission is $10/$7 conc. Food available from 7pm. Bookings: 391 4433.
