Ever wondered what it takes to put out a paper like Green Left Weekly every week? First and foremost it takes people who are prepared to distribute it. Without the regular sellers from the Democratic Socialist Party and Resistance, the paper wouldn't get very far, no matter how well it was produced.
Secondly, the paper needs readers. People like yourself who are prepared to stop on a street corner and buy the paper. Maybe you thought the cover looked interesting. Perhaps you'd seen the paper before and were a little curious. Or perhaps you're a regular buyer or subscriber to who knows just how different and valuable Green Left is.
Thirdly, the paper needs content. The range of articles contributed from correspondents and activists around the country and around the world is very impressive. If it's happening and it's political, chances are you'll read about it in Green Left Weekly.
Fourthly, the paper needs those tireless souls prepared to put the paper together: a small team who'll do the long hours, and whatever it takes, to produce the paper every week.
Fifthly, Green Left also needs money. The enormous costs of producing the paper and then shipping it all around the country aren't covered by the cover price. Unlike the establishment media, Green Left won't accept sexist, racist or misleading advertising either. Consequently, we make very little from ads.
The main source of funds for Green Left is you, and people like you: readers who are prepared to donate what they can to keep the project afloat, or to attend Green Left fundraisers to show their support.
Green Left is constantly stretching it financially. With a little money, we make a great paper go along way. What can you do to help? All donations to the Green Left business office (see advertisement page 4) are gratefully received.
