Ambushing the media

By Chris Spindler

ADELAIDE --“... exciting ... innovative ... raw ... pulsing with political debate”, states the fresh press release for Ambush street theatre's latest production That Was, The Week, That Was or TW3.

Given Ambush's recent performances (Maypolling, Indonesian people's theatre and unemployment street theatre) exciting, innovative, raw and political are the least of what you can expect when you see TW3.

Disgusted by the lack of diversity in Adelaide's major print media, Ambush has and will put together a series of commentaries on the week's media events and coverage.

Ambush member Robyn Waite said, “The media doesn't cover the issues it should, it isn't fair or balanced. Adelaide's major print media is owned by one person, so we thought it was about time to give another point of view.”

Ambush has also drawn on the talent from a number of other independent and unfunded theatre groups to put together an alternative political view of the news. Their promotional material promises, “No commercials. No hype. No media moguls. No serious, credible newsreaders. Just the facts!”

TW3 performances are in Rundle Mall on Fridays 5-6pm and Saturdays 11am-noon for another three weeks (look for the yellow and green banner). While you're there make sure to pick up the latest Green Left Weekly.
