SYDNEY — Mining sand

9 February 1994

SYDNEY -- The New South Wales Labor Council decided on January 27 to ban maritime, dredging and transport work associated with a proposal to mine sand from the seabed offshore from Botany Bay, Cronulla and the Royal National Park. The proposal has aroused widespread opposition from environmentalists and residents of suburbs likely to be affected. Pictured is the Solidarity Choir performing at a January 22 rally at Bondi Beach opposing the sand mining plan.
