candidates standing in this election. But what happens after March 13? What are the prospects of building a stronger alternative to the Labor/Liberal sham for the future? Can any of them do it on their own? If not, what are the prospects for a united effort?

To begin a discussion of these questions, Green Left Weekly sought the opinions of Bob Brown of the National Greens, Greens (WA) Senator Christabel Chamarette, Green Alliance Victorian Senate candidate Francesca Davidson, Australian Democrats leader Senator John Coulter, Victorian Independent Senator Janet Powell, Sam Watson of the Australian Indigenous Peoples Party, Dick Nichols, a national coordinator of the Democratic Socialist campaign, and Larry Marshall, spokesperson for the Rainbow Alliance election campaign in Victoria. The interviews were conducted by Peter Boyle, Anne Casey and Karen Fredericks.
