PLO rep visits Vanuatu

The Palestine Liberation Organisation's Ambassador to Vanuatu, Ali Kazak, has expressed satisfaction with talks he's held in Port Vila with that country's leaders, Pacnews News Service reported on February 17.

Kazak held talks with Prime Minister Maxim Carlot Korman, President Fred Timakata, Foreign Affairs officials, former prime minister and president of the National United Party, Father Walter Lini, and the leader of the opposition, Donald Kalpokas.

Kazak told Radio Vanuatu there was agreement on all bilateral matters discussed. He said the PLO sees Vanuatu as an important state with a role to play at the United Nations, and that PLO has confidence in Vanuatu and the other 120 countries it has diplomatic ties with.

Ambassador Kazak said his visit to Port Vila was important in order to brief officials in Vanuatu on the latest political situation in the Middle East and the position of the PLO.

He called on Vanuatu and the international community to take collective action to pressure Israel to comply with UN Security Council Resolutions 242 and 138, which call for the immediate withdrawal of Israel from Palestinian lands.

Vanuatu is the only South Pacific country which recognises the PLO, but Kazak confirmed moves are under way to gain recognition from other regional states.
