8 December 1993

This issue will be the last Green Left Weekly produced in 1993. The first issue in 1994 will be dated January 19.

Issue 126 marks the successful publication of Green Left Weekly for three years. And without doubt, the third year has been the most successful yet.

During 1993, Green Left expanded its coverage of issues and politics to a regular 32 pages. Green Left delivered independent coverage of events in Europe and Russia, with the aid of our international correspondents.

Over 1993, more copies of the paper were distributed than ever before. Sales of the paper on the streets were higher, and the number of subscribers steadily increased. A range of new contributors joined the many regular contributors, adding to the breadth and coverage of the paper in every way.

Throughout 1993, Green Left Weekly took up the debates and raised the issues that the mass media feared to touch. From alternative candidates in the March federal election, to Yeltsin's September coup against democracy in Russia, Green Left consistently gave you the other side of the story.

None of what Green Left has achieved over its three years has come easily. At every step, the success of the paper has relied squarely on the active support of you -- our readers.

The strong and consistent support for the project by you and others like you has helped Green Left Weekly grow into the vital activist resource that it is today.

At the time of writing, the Green Left 1993 $100,000 fund appeal is only a little over $2000 from success. With just a few more events on the Green Left calendar for the year, ultimate success will depend on how well these go.

A range of end of year functions are being held to celebrate the end of Green Left's successful third year. Just check “Meetings ... Parties ... Anything” for details in your city.

In 1994 Green Left Weekly will continue to grow and reach out. We intend to have a correspondent in South Africa to cover the first democratic elections there. In addition we intend to increase our coverage of the Australian political situation and keep you well informed.

We're three years strong and here to stay. Green Left Weekly -- it's your paper.
