Queen Street Mall threat

By Nikki Ulasowski

BRISBANE -- City mall management renewed attacks on democratic rights in the Queen Street Mall on November 30 by trying to force removal of a display board which was part of a stall supporting sacked ABC reporter Pamela Bornhorst.

Otto Hoolhorst, spokesperson for the group, said, “Representatives of the mall management told us that we had to remove our display board because the mall management considered that it was not a `stall' or `part of a stall'”.

On December 3, the group again held a stall and contacted Rick Andrews, the mall manager. He stated that after conversations in council, a stall meant tables only and not display boards.

“We have pointed out that the stall was unobtrusive and no obstruction to mall traffic. The Queen Street Mall is the main street of our city and the community-oriented information dissemination, which our display board represented, should have at least equal rights with commercial activity”, Hoolhorst told Green Left Weekly.
