A fierce rave around the world

BRISBANE -- “The People will be Seen, The People Will Be Heard” were the words that greeted more than 300 people at FIERCE at Boulder Lodge on Friday night, September 24.

The cross-arts extravaganza attracted the full spectrum of performers from the politically conscious to the techno-funk record warpers.

The evening was also joined by dozens of InterRAVE enthusiasts from around the world, in what is considered to be a first for this kind of event. From the 19-year-old military police cadet in Trondheim, Norway, the spaced out NASA student in Florida, USA (who described the dawn to an intrigued crowd viewing the discussion projected onto the Boulder Lodge walls), to the failing medicine student in Seoul (who was more keen to discuss the nuclear program of North Korea than the dance parties of downtown Seoul), the computer link-up provided an interesting complement to the evening's agenda.

All in all, an extremely successful evening which partied on until the early hours of dawn. The event was designed to raise funds for the indigenous peoples of South-East Asia, and according to Andrew Garton, one of the organisers, “this event goes a long way to show that there is a strong sentiment in the community for solidarity issues for indigenous peoples.

“We have given the opportunity for the people to be seen, and there is no doubt that we will follow this up, maybe with a MORE FIERCE, or something similar. The people will be heard!”
