Women's Electoral Lobby reborn in SA

By Connie Frazer

ADELAIDE -- About 100 women, young and old, white and Aboriginal attended a Women's Electoral Lobby conference in Adelaide on the weekend of November 14-15.

Also invited to the conference, Senators John Coulter, Amanda Vanstone and Rosemary Crowley as well as SA Minister for Health Martin Evans, answered questions at a lively “Meet the politicians” session on the Sunday. Women expressed anger at what was happening to their lives, cuts to women's services, threats to women's centres and, above all, to “male” violence, mistermed “domestic” violence.

A final speakout ending the plenary session left all attending in no doubt that WEL is “well” and truly revived in this state and ready to fightback against the erosion of gains previously won and rights not yet achieved.
