Timorese message to Croatian rally

The following message was read out by the organisers at a Melbourne rally in support of Croatia on December 7.

We, the people of East Timor, the Maubere people, support the Croatian and other peoples in their struggles for self-determination and independence.

Our struggle, like your struggle and all other struggles, share the same ideals, that is to conquer our liberty and freedom, to choose our own destiny, to defend our sovereign integrity.

A victory in East Timor and a victory in Croatia is a victory for all oppressed people in the world.

Let's continue fighting to end oppression and domination.

Let's change the ugly face of politics. All peoples must work in solidarity and believe in our power to effect change to create a better world free from the tentacles of colonialism and imperialism, a world that prioritises human rights, human dignity and human decency.

To resist is to win!

Long live the people of Croatia!

Long live the people of East Timor!
