Working people in paint

SYDNEY -- A unique exhibition of 35 painters who either identified with working people or depicted their living and working conditions is showing at the Campbelltown City Art Gallery until August 25.

The exhibition includes the work of Ray Dalgarno, who over 40 years ago painted Port Kembla steel workers, miners and wharfies. Arthur Collingride's 1899 Making the Road to Bathurst also appears, as does Donald Friend's 1979 work, The Busker.

A special highlight is the collection of lino-cuts depicting the 1854 Eureka Stockade and a photographic montage of the historic mural depicting the history of the Waterside Workers Union hanging at the Sydney branch hall.

The exhibition is free of charge and open to the public. The Campbelltown City Art Gallery is on the corner of Camden and Appin Roads, and open Wednesday to Friday 10am-4pm, Saturday and Sunday 12 noon to 5pm.
