Video on Gulf War

By Stuart Wax

SYDNEY -- A new video, Consequences of the Gulf War, had its debut at the Trades Hall here on July 4. Film maker John Reynolds told the audience the media was biased and that he wanted to be “biased in the other direction”.

Much of the footage was shot in Iraq by Dean Jeffreys, who was there from January 3 to 29 and witnessed the air raids.

Also speaking was PLO representative Eddie Zananiri, who pointed out that US goals in the war had nothing to do with the self-determination of Kuwait and everything to do with control of oil.

The meeting, sponsored by the Middle East Action Coalition, also saw a US video featuring ex-CIA agent and best-selling author Philip Agee.

Consequences of the Gulf War deals with the reasons for the war, the impact on the environment, how people with Middle Eastern backgrounds faced racist attacks in Australia, the role of the media and the continuing arms build-up in that region.

The video will soon be available for purchase. Contact Art Resistance on (02) 568 2485 or the Middle East Action coalition. n
