Radio features World Environment Day

By Tracy Sorensen

SYDNEY -- Public access radio station 2SER-FM will mark World Environment Day on June 5 with a full day of special programs, reports, interviews, features and music.

“Public radio was pushing these issues long before government or commercial stations caught up with the growth in public concern”, said current affairs producer Stafford Sanders.

Highlights of the day include interviews with members of the Environmental Youth Alliance, and background stories on harassment of environmentalists in the Philippines, the tobacco industry's ecological legacy, the Australian meat-based diet and its impact on land degradation and the destruction of teak forests in Burma.

The afternoon music programs offer a feast of planetary concern, including the program Deep Joy (2-4 p.m.) which promises to “spice its usual soul-to-techno-rave mix with a selection of green lyrics and a live rapper”.
